Blake grew up with an architect as a father and was thus propelled into buildings at an early age (usually holding the other end of the tape measure for him!). Blake grew up in Fort Collins and couldn't leave this beautiful state, so he attended college at the University of Colorado working toward his engineering degree. Throughout college Blake worked in the construction field from land surveying to pouring concrete. This interest in construction helped him get a firsthand perspective of how buildings get built. He graduated from CU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis. After graduation, Blake moved back to Fort Collins where he practiced structural engineering with a large firm and started his family. Blake's desire for building things eventually caught up with him again and he decided to start his own construction company, Larsen Design and Construction, in 2001. While still working full-time for a large engineering firm, Blake's company focused on designing and building residential construction—mostly custom homes and multi-family townhomes. In 2005, Blake founded Larsen Structural Design to provide a service very few structural engineers have: Practical Building Expertise. It is this experience that sets Blake and Larsen Structural Design apart from other engineering firms.
